This book is a mislaid treasure! Very useful for students of psychology, sociology, domestic science, or history. As Americans, we tend to associate Marxism with odious Communist regimes and low economies, mostly forgetful that Marx was not usually an economist, yet a sociologist and philosopher. In further to theories about story and politics, Marx was obliged for building new ways to cruise about story and politics altogether, formulating new methods of research that are taken for postulated as apparent or indispensible today, even by his critics.

In this 1974 book, Phil Brown (former writer to "The Radical Therapist" repository and member of Psychologists for a Democratic Society) calls for a "Marxist Psychology"...a psychology that recognizes people as participants in story not victims of it; a psychology that takes a individual's place in multitude into account; a psychology that refrains from "mystifying" a individual's experience. Many of these ideas have been put into use given then. Phil Brown's interpretation of Marxism is anti-authoritarian, sex-positive, celebrates artistic expression, and offers a patron a advantage of a doubt, and therefore this book would substantially be savoury even to many who don't cruise themselves Marxists or sympathize with Marx.

Brown does not make a lot of claims, or explain to have a lot of answers. The book was especially created to ask critical questions to get a discourse started about a no-man's land between psychology and other amicable sciences like sociology and domestic science, and Brown does an extraordinary pursuit of it! The usually reason we gave it 4 stars instead of five? It is flattering aged (though still mostly relevant), and we tend usually to give 5 stars to books that pierce mountains.
